AWOL Events Attended: All of them!

 August 2009 Newsletter
We are now 4 days away from our 10th anniversary LAN, and by looking at the sign ups, everyone is as excited as we are. We’re at 70 people at the writing of this letter, that’s the most we’ve ever had sign up before the event. We always have people who pay at the door, so that will make this LAN the largest AWOL LAN to date! A huge thank you from all the AWOL staff to the players!
As the day gets closer, we wanted to remind everyone of a couple of thing. If you have registered and have not paid, YOUR SEAT IS NOT RESERVED, unless you have made arrangements with the staff. At the time of this letter there are 10 people who have not paid for their seats. With the number of sign ups coming in, I would recommend paying ASAP.
Anyone under the age of 18 is REQUIRED to have a PHYSICAL WAIVER form signed by a parent and they will need this before they can setup their PC. If you are under 18, and do not have this form signed, you will NOT be allowed to setup until you get this form signed. The number if exceptions we will make to this rule is absolutely zero. The waiver can be found here: waiver.pdf
No outside food is allowed into Action City. This is a rule put forth by Action City in compliance with Eau Claire County. The only exception to this rule would be for food allergies, if you have any, please let us know.
Equipment drop off and pickup will be at the front doors of Action City, but this is for drop off and pick up only, you cannot park by the curb. Also, try load/unload your vehicle quickly so others can un/load too. The AWOL staff would like to request that everyone park near the back of the Action City lot. This would be a great courtesy to Action City’s normal customers. We have no way to enforce this, but let’s show them that gamers have some manners and class.
We will be monitoring all incoming/outgoing traffic through our network. If you’re connection is seen as using large amounts bandwidth, you’re switch port will be disabled until we figure out what application is using that much bandwidth. The bottom line is, do not torrent, and please disable all online backup programs.
Alright, now for a quick list of Do’s and Don’ts
DO: Install and update all virus software Install and update all games you want to play Bring any relevant CD’s that you may need for games/OS’s ect.. Be familiar with the Official Itinerary found here: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=899 Become familiar with ALP, as that will be the program we’ll be using for tournaments Bring a power strip. This is required. Read and understand our waiver which can be found here: waiver.pdf Respect other gamers and Action City guests Use common sense Listen to all AWOL and Action City staff Have Fun!
DO NOT: Bring any UPS/APC/Battery backup devices. Try to hack anyone’s PC. This is a LAN and not Defcon Leave any personal belongings unsecured if you leave. Touch/fondle/lick or molest any of the network equipment, we do remove fingernails for this offense
I’m sure I’ve missed a few things, but overall, we try to run a pretty relaxed LAN, so be prepared to have a good time and melt some faces.
We’ll see you there!
Ps There will be cake at this LAN.
