Since there seems to be a bit of a calling for a MW2 tourney in the other thread I figured I would post a poll to see who actually have the game and can play mp games with it.

There will not be an Official tourney for MW2, sorry...

From what I understand it does not lend itself to LAN play very well due to lack of a dedicated server and no way to put everyone on an even playing field via Mod's that dictate what weapons/perks everyone has access to.

So, no... there will not be an official MW2 tournament at the LAN. Players are more than welcome to have an unofficial tournament (so long as it does NOT interfere with the Official schedule which should be posted tonight after the staff meeting and does NOT involve a buy in and prize money as has been suggested for player ran tourney's in the past)

And there is the limiting factor of how many ppl actually own the game.

please note that 30cal and s17 did offer to get an unofficial event happening.

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out because no one seemed to have said anything. Let me make one thing straight: CoD4, right now, is the obvious choice for competitive play. That being said, I think that MW2's multiplayer is extremely addictive and has every right to show up as a popular game at the LAN. So, without further ado: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/unofficialmw2. Please join this group if you would like to play either in the tourney, or just for funsies, for MW2 at the LAN. Through this group, it should be pretty easy to set up games/scrims/matches.

Note: The structure and rules for it are still being edited.

If there's no MW2, then there shouldn't be any L4D 2. For the same reason, I doubt many people have L4D 2 since it was basically... a remake, with more black people.

L4D2 allows server choices, etc. It is not a console match making service.

Have you played it? It's the exact same game with some new weapons, new infected, and new humans.

I get that it allows server choice and whatnot, but unless you want a tournament with 5 players, then you should choose the original L4D.

If anything, people that bought MW2 got ripped off. L4D2's lobby matchmaking is actually run off dedicated servers for its infrastructure (I'm assuming L4D2's matchmaking is the same as L4D). I'll admit though, getting L4D setup for tournament play was difficult, it is no where as hard as MW2 would be. With dedicated servers come things that most balanced, competitive games strive for: extensive admin control, the ability for seamless round restarts, mod/configuration installation, and no host advantage (this pertains to online play). Let's see what MW2 has to offer: oh wait, none of that! (mod tools are coming though!)

Do I feel like MW2 is a bad game because of these? No. Do I feel like MW2 can't be taken seriously (at least on the PC) for competitive play? Yes. There are just too many variables that make it frustrating for tournament organizers and players alike. Now, you're probably thinking, "why the heck are you running a tourney 30CAL?" Well, I believe that through the system I set up, we can have that feel of all of us playing on one dedicated server. We can have that feel of getting ready with our teammates to take on the next opponent. Basically, in the end, the game mechanics for a great competitive game are there (except noobtubes), but the networking and accessibility needs a little *cough* a lot *cough* of work.

I voted for choice 4, but thats only because i'm not sure which way to go. I need to buy a game for the lan and it's ether going to be cod4 or mw2 i can't afford both.

How about, we just make a giant LAN server again for MW2 and just play. Stop arguing about it. The tournament would be unfair and stupid.
