 Magic: The Gathering draft signup
Hey interested parties. We are doing a Worldwake/Zendikar draft at the this upcoming AWOL. Post here if you are going to participate or have ideas. Updated from group discussionQuote: [Moose] OK guys, I have re-evaluated my situations, and everything should be peachy. I will have many boxes of worldwake there. (I'll even have some packs I can sell outside the tourney, if people want a few, to check out cards in advance.) I also got a new shiny pack of foil promo cards, so I'll have random prizes to give out for all the tourneys. You can come to me with a group of 8 people ready to play, or come to me at any time to put your name on a PUG list. Drafts will be on a first-come first-serve basis, but I should have plenty of boxes for anyone who wants to play.
To refresh the rules: -Tourneys will have 8 people. -$15 buy in. You get 3 packs, as normal draft. -ALL cards are draft-able. Lands, tokens, rules cards, all of them can be chosen as your card from the pack. Some people collect tokens and such, and we don't want to discriminate against them. -You keep all the cards you draft, payouts will be in booster packs. -after 20 minutes of deck construction, 4 rounds of Swiss scoring, 50 minutes per round payouts will be a such: 1st place - 4 bonus packs 2nd place - 3 bonus packs 3rd place - 2 bonus packs Last place (Better luck next time prize) - 1 bonus pack [/Moose]

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
I think the best idea for this is to wait till after AC closes for the night. This gives us the ability to use the tables by the 'food court' and not disturb the normal customers. I just dont see there being room anywhere else to do it unless they want to give us access to one of their party rooms (but i have to believe that would cost us $).
Im in though for whatever.
Admins, any suggestions on this? We will need clean table space for like 5-10 (20 tops) people i imagine.

I think that you have the right idea, after hours in the food court would be a great place and time, just make sure to know the tournament schedule so you don't miss any that you are supposed to be in.
Seeing as how I've never played Magic, and I've only heard the stereotypical references to it, I wouldn't mind watching to see what it is all about.
Also, I'm happy to see people organizing events, great job everyone.

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
Zeroeth, do you mind editing the OP and making a list (1-8) of registered participants? I'm thinking we should arrange this in a first come first serve manner. First 8 people to register get spots... or if we have enough (16 interested players) I guess we could do two, separate drafts.
Count me in btw.
EDIT: Do we all just want to bring our own lands? Or does somebody have over 9000 lands they could share for the event?

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
I am an "official WPN gateway organizer."
Let me know if you need me to step up and organize some drafts, I'd be happy to. I can get booster boxes pretty cheap, so the draft would probably cost between $13-15. Never tried organizing one with a pack buy-in though.
Also, at those prices we can have pack payouts as well. Just in case you guys don't trust the other people at the LAN to be honest about which rares they got.
*edit* and no worries if we need lands. I think I have approximately 3-4000 lands.

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
I'd definitely be down for a Magic draft. I'd personally prefer to do a buy in as I will probably not have time or forget to pick up booster packs before heading to AWOL. Also, I think it is worth it to pay a little extra to get a booster box and have pack prizes.

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
List updated, I'm all down for a 1 pack buyin, currently I can get 3 boosters for just a shot over $10 so if we don't get enough to constitute purchase a whole box (or two since its 2wwk 1zen) That's the price I can get boosters for. I've never done a draft with a buy in. So do would we rare draft at the end also? Or does it play like it does on MtGO where you keep what you draft and just win boosters?

Keep what you draft and winner(s) get booster packs. Just use the same rules as standard tournament drafts do.

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
Until Zeroeth passes it off, its still his tourney in my eyes. This is all *if* at the moment.
If I did run it, here is how it would most likely work: -$15 buy in. -I'll try to get an extra pack of promo foils as well to give out here, so there will hopefully be a few random foil promo cards given away. -after 20 minutes of deck construction, 4 rounds of Swiss scoring, 50 minutes per round payouts will be a such: 1st place - 4 bonus packs 2nd place - 3 bonus packs 3rd place - 2 bonus packs Last place (Better luck next time prize) - 1 bonus pack
I find that this payout scheme keeps people playing till the end of the tourney, due to the booby prize. I could do Worldwake or Zendikar, or a mix of the two. If people wanted to do a crazy draft, I may even be able to pick up some unhinged/planeshift/ice age or something.

Re: Magic: The Gathering draft signup
I think everyone wants this to be as fun as possible and as far as I'm concerned supermoose can own the task of getting the boosters and possibly foils. Personally, I like to play re-draft of rares because it stops people coming to snag all the rares. But I'll throw caution to the wind and do what the majority wants. It's hard to say no with a guarantee of 4 boosters for $15 and right now that seems like it would be the most fun.
So do you guys want to plan on having it on Friday after hours at the tables?
So if I understand your right supermoose this could be a DCI sanctioned draft too? Because that would be awesome!

Sign me up :D I love drafting
*edit:
If possible it would be cool if I could be in pod 1. Me and Jav normally draft together.
