I thought it would be a good idea while the thoughts are still fresh in my mind, to talk about the lan to go over the good/bad.
But before i do that during day two of the lan it was announced that a member of the AWOL staff had to be taken to the hospital. I hope everything is ok?
Registration: Was smooth for myself. Signed up got my swag bag and started gaming.
Player turnout: On day two i noticed alot of empty seats, like ether people never came or left early... On the internal lan web server only 87 people had signed up which leads me to ask how many showed up and why did they leave?
Network access: The internal infrastructure was rock solid, internet access was flaky but was resolved.
Note: It only took 122 hardcore AWOL gamers to bring the modem to it's knees....Anyone remember the screensavers effect on TechTV? This was the AWOL effect !
But the issue was beyond anyone's control to preventPower: I had no issues with power, but i noticed a small .01 % fluctuation in the power grid on the second day for two seconds.
Food: When you come back from the bathroom and find your food at your spot, that's what i call service. No complaints at all the food was great....
Tournament: Had a few issues that were worked out quickly, expect for the L4D tournament which was canceled because of time issues.
Group photo: I think we could do that better, it felt like we were sardines crammed in a can and were in a hurry to get the shot.. Here's my thoughts, on the first day after action city business hours. We get everyone on the indoor go-cart track, holding the AWOL 2010 banner with a guy on a ladder like we had for the shot. I think doing it like this you would have a better picture of everyone and the turn out.
Over all i'd give this event a 9.8 - 9.9
