So, I've been talking with some other attendees and we've realized that there is clearly a lack of an RPS tournament. Now, while this is clearly a travesty; we can clearly rectify this situation by having an RPS tournament. RPS is not only something that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone at the LAN, but RPS has a low skill floor, allowing even the most inexperienced player to enjoy themselves.

RPS is a classic strategy game, and it doesn't get caught up in the gimmicky cheeses of modern strategy games; there are 8 easy to learn basic strategies, each of which can be expanded upon by more advanced players. That said, the more advanced players may make use of already established meta strategies; however, that is akin to any other strategy game such as League of Legends or Starcraft.

What makes RPS ideal for a LAN scenario is not only its dedicated LAN support, but more importantly the lack of a config would allow for an easy setup for the Staff. Veterans to the forums may remember the flame wars that have broken out over tournament rules; however, the competitive scene for RPS has been around long enough for well-established rules to be accepted by the competitive community.

Did you catch the VOD of Bob Cooper's win in the world finals? That match was so intense.

RPS is a very in-depth strategy game with a constantly evolving meta. The game is played by two players (1v1) and minimal tourney configs are required. Here is a rules excerpt taken from the world RPS society.

Rule Governance
These rules are governed, maintained, published, updated, authorized and approved by the World RPS Society under the guidance and authority of the World RPS Steering Committee. Any changes are in strict violation of the World RPS Society’s Responsibility Code. Any changes to the rules require a seven-eighths majority ruling by the World RPS Steering Committee, unless, a temporary waiving or amendment is agreed upon by the players prior to play commencing. All temporary amendments are considered ephemeral unless otherwise agreed upon, but must not include any variant throws beyond the basic trinity such as, but not limited to, dynamite, bird, well, spock, god, water, lightning, bomb, matchstick, water, and/or Texas longhorn.

I was honestly disappointed that this wasn't an official tournament last LAN. I only played this for the last two weeks leading up to the event, and then was super bummed it didn't turn out. Two people were playing across the go kart track, but I didn't feel like joining in since there wasn't a tag. If there is any tournament we play, it has to be this one.

Awesome. We should be training partners. Usually I use the RPS playing glove (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwvRWdW ... r_embedded) but there is no substitute for training against an actual player.

I didn't see a lot of scissors thrown over there but seems there was a lot of rock.

Classic RPS rookie mistake. He should have used one of the eight outlined gambits in this article: http://worldrps.com/gambit-play

I prefer the Scissor Sandwich myself.

I'm partial to the Bureaucrat, but sometimes I throw in a Sandwich.

What do you think of the current subliminal meta?

"Formerly known as Confetti, the deadpan delivery of three successive Papers is the ultimate in passive-aggressive play."

I like the idea of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock.

Scissors cut paper
Paper covers rock
Rock crushes lizard
Lizard poisons Spock
Spock smashes scissors
Scissors decapitate lizard
Lizard eats paper
Paper disproves Spock
Spock vaporizes rock
and as it always has.... Rock crushes scissors.
